Nea Ovens

Nea is a registered Acupuncturist who has been practising since 2002.

She is experienced in treating a wide range of health issues, however, her main areas of practice have been the following:

  • Women’s health
  • Female and male fertility
  • Musculoskeletal issues
  • Chronic Pain – central sensitisation
  • Poor immunity

In a consultation, she listens to the patient’s symptoms and diagnoses according to Chinese Medicine pathology. Efficacy and care are priorities, developing her treatment plans based on evidence-based research. In addition to acupuncture, she might also incorporate moxibustion, TENS, dry needling, and Chinese herbal medicine into the treatment. Attainable diet and lifestyle changes are usually also discussed.

She graduated in 2001 with a four-year Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) at the Australian College of Natural Medicine, Brisbane. She is an accredited member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA). She is also a registered practitioner under the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA).

In line with AHPRA guidelines, she regularly attends seminars to further refine her skills and keenly keeps up to date with evidence-based research.

She had a particular interest in Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and joint hypermobility spectrum disorders. In 2019 she attended the EDS  ECHO program (5B) for Health Professionals and has since attended the yearly EDS Allied Health ECHO programs.

In 2022 she completed a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy course in Pain Management through the University of Sydney. These skills augment her ability to treat chronic pain by including CBT techniques alongside acupuncture treatment.

Beginning 2024, she continues to develop her understanding of human behaviour having enrolled in a Graduate Diploma in Psychology
